Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Development Authority.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

327 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will consider setting up a Dublin Development Authority, similar to that operating in the Shannon area, to coordinate marketing and development efforts for the Dublin area. [12720/95]

It is not proposed to establish a Dublin Development Authority, similar to that operating in the Shannon area, to coordinate marketing and development efforts for the Dublin area.

In relation to industrial development outside the Shannon Free Zone, foreign direct investment is largely promoted by IDA Ireland, as it is in Dublin and the rest of the country. In relation to indigenous industry, Shannon Development acts under delegated authority from Forbairt in the Mid West region and exercises the same powers as Forbairt in the other regions of the country. Specifically in relation to Dublin, Forbairt has since January 1995 had a regional office dedicated to the development of Dublin city and county.

In relation to marketing, both Dublin and Shannon come under the aegis of An Bord Tráchtála insofar as manufacturing exports are concerned and both this area and that of tourism come of course under the remit of the Minister for Tourism and Trade.
