Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ireland Bonds.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

104 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if his Department's study of the New York City Comptroller's proposals to create Ireland Bonds in the United States has been concluded. [13544/95]

My Department has examined the proposal by Mr. Alan Hevesi, Comptroller of the City of New York, to establish an Ireland Development Bank which would issue Ireland Peace Bonds, and has raised with him a number of issues requiring further study.

In this course of his recent visit to Ireland, I met with Mr. Hevesi and his advisers and welcomed the initiative as an imaginative attempt to mobilise Irish-American and international support for the peace process.

I informed Mr. Hevesi that my Department would liaise with his office to explore ways of advancing the proposal.
