Vol. 456 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Insurance Fund.

Joe Walsh

Question:

38 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the projected outturn for the social insurance fund for 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13929/95]

The published Estimates for 1995 for the Social Welfare Vote provide for an Exchequer subvention to the social insurance fund of £25.4 million under subhead B.1. — this represents the estimated amount by which expenditure of the fund would exceed income.

The latest projected outturn for the social insurance fund indicates an excess of expenditure over income of approximately £35.4 million, which is an increase of £10 million on the 1995 published Estimate. These figures do not take account of the cost of paying a Christmas bonus in 1995.

The provision of £200 million under subhead B.2 was provided for equal treatment payments exclusively and no change is anticipated.
