John Ellis

Question:

154 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of new jobs that will be created in the timber processing industry in 1995; and the numbers created in each of the past three years. [14342/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 153 and 154 together. The total amount of money forecasted for investment in the timber processing industry in 1995 by the industrial development agencies operating under the aegis of my Department is £5.1 million. During the years 1992, 1993 and 1994 employment in the sector has averaged 1,350 with no major fluctuations. A net increase of about 80 in the employment in the major sawmills and board mills is expected in 1995.
