Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - FÁS Allowance.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

162 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the reason a person on deserted wife's allowance attending schemes with FÁS is not given the allowance of £24 a week plus the cost of travelling to work, similar to the allowances paid to persons in receipt of lone parent's allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14928/95]

The issue does not arise in relation to community employment as people on deserted wive's allowance are not eligible to participate in community employment. People on deserted wife's allowance who are on FÁS training programmes are paid the same allowances as other participants on the programmes. Additional social welfare entitlements for such people is a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare.
