Written Answers. - Ministerial Travel.

Ivor Callely

Question:

123 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence if he will give a breakdown of foreign travel that he or the Minister of State at his Department has undertaken; the total cost involved; the purpose of such trips; the number and list of passengers who travelled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15145/95]

I refer the Deputy to questions answered in the House yesterday by the Minister of State at my Department and by myself which provided all information required by the Deputy, apart from the cost of the trip made by the Minister of State and details of the personnel who accompanied him.

The cost to my Department of the visit made by the Minister of State amounted to £18,868.

He was accompanied by Mrs. Higgins, an Assistant Secretary of the Department of Defence, the assistant Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, the Minister of State's Private Secretary, a military staff officer and an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Question:

124 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give a breakdown of foreign travel that he or the Minister of State at his Department has undertaken; the total cost involved; the purpose of such trips; the number and list of passengers who travelled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15144/95]

The information requested by the Deputy regarding foreign travel trips undertaken by me was supplied by me to the House yesterday. The details regarding foreign travel trips undertaken by the Minister of State follow in tabular format. The costs listed cover air-fares, hotel and other travel and subsistence costs incurred to date by the Department in respect of the participants in the meetings listed. The costs do not take into account the use of the Government jet on the return leg of the trip undertaken on 21 January 1995. An estimate of costs in respect of the trip undertaken from 3-4 October is provided in the absence of any actual expenditure to date by the Department.
