Vol. 457 No. 3

Written Answers. - Security of Taoiseach's Residence.

Gerard C. Connolly

Question:

11 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Finance the basis for the addition of a permanent wall around the Taoiseach's home at taxpayers' expense. [12245/95]

The Deputy will be aware, from my reply to a similar question on 27 June last, that the wall along part of the road frontage at the Taoiseach's residence was built in accordance with the recommendations of a Garda security report. He will also be aware that the Garda authorities were of the view that in the absence of such a security wall, one additional Garda would have been required on a 24 hour basis to patrol this area. I am satisfied that the construction of the wall, as recommended, has been, and continues to be, the most cost effective method of providing adequate security along this section of the property boundary.
