Vol. 457 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

Austin Deasy

Question:

16 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance the approximate amount of national lottery funds which are available for distribution each year; and if he will give a breakdown of the way in which funds are allocated between various Government Departments. [15240/95]

The actual amount of national lottery funding available for distribution by each Department each year is set out in a special appendix to the Estimates Volume for that year. The total amounts allocated each year since the inception of the national lottery are set out in the following table which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Under section 5 of the National Lottery Act, 1986, the Government decides how the surplus from the national lottery is to be allocated between Departments. While I, as Minister for Finance, have responsibility for the overall operation of the national lottery, once allocations have been made by Government, responsibility for the disbursement of funds then rests with the relevant spending Minister.
