Vol. 457 No. 3

Written Answers. - Regional Policy.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

34 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if any member of the Government has been given overall responsibility for regional policy. [13521/95]

The assignment of overall responsibility for a particular policy area or of portfolios is a matter for the Taoiseach. As regards existing responsibility for regional policy, as Minister for Finance, I have overall responsibility for the economic and social policy aspects of regional policy while the Minister for the Environment has overall responsibility for the development of regional structures in Ireland and for the physical planning and development control aspects of regional planning. Other Ministers have responsibility for aspects of regional policy to the extent that their sectoral policies impact on regional development.
