Vol. 457 No. 5

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

44 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Health the consultants who were appointed by his Department since 16 December 1994; if they were appointed following a tendering procedure; if the consultant appointed in each case was the lowest tenderer; and, if not, who the lowest tenderer was. [15716/95]

Limerick East): The information sought by the Deputy is as follows:

Consultants appointed

Tendering Procedures Used

Lowest Tenderer

Norcontel Telecommunications Consultancy

Yes

Yes

dataDirect (Softwear Development)

Yes

Yes

Ernest & Young (System Analyst)

Yes

Yes

Deloitte & Touche

Yes

No

In the latter case, because of market sensitivity it is not appropriate to provide this information.
In addition, five individuals and two companies were appointed without recourse to the tendering procedures. This was necessary either because of the specialised nature of the assignments or because of the urgency of finding a suitable person to undertake a short-term assignment.
