197 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Education the number of school transport buses currently used in each county by her Department; and the number of supervisors employed in each County. [15994/95]
Approximately 165,000 pupils are accommodated daily on 6,000 routes under the school transport scheme. There are 2,300 vehicles of varying sizes employed in the provision of the scheme throughout the 26 counties.
The number of vehicles operating in each county is not readily available, as many vehicles traverse county boundaries in the daily operation of the scheme.
While supervisors are not a feature of the school transport scheme, all large capacity vehicles have a prefect system in operation.
