Brennan asked the Minister for Justice the individual value and duration of contracts for couriers, taxi services, cleaning, security and haulage given by her Department in the period January 1995 to date; the number of tenders received for each contract; the names of the successful tenderers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. It would not be appropriate for me to disclose details of the value of these individual contracts, either because of the market sensitive nature of this information or because a competitive tendering process was used. However, the total value of all of the above contracts in each of the areas involved is as follows:

The position in relation to the cleaning of Garda stations is that where cleaners are not employed directly, contract cleaners are used. I regret that, in the time available and because of the large number of Garda stations involved, it has not been possible to assemble the detailed information requested by the Deputy in relation to this area. I will, however, convey the information to the Deputy by letter as soon as possible.
My Department has not initiated contracts with any courier firms this year.
