Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Traveller Statistics.

Peter Barry

Question:

52 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment the most up to date figures available for the number of travelling people in the country; the numbers for new age travellers; and a breakdown of the overall figures into age categories. [15672/95]

The most recent count of the number of traveller households was carried out by local authorities on 25 November 1994. The results are set out in Part VIII of my Department's Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1994, copies of which are in the Oireachtas Library. My Department has no information on the numbers of new age travellers or on the age categories of members of the traveller community.
