Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Validation of Social Worker.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

104 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Health when the National Validation Body for social workers will make its decision on the request for validation by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 in view of the fact that this person is waiting for a decision since May 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16058/95]

The National Validation Body held its inaugural meeting on 17 May 1995. There are a number of high level issues being dealt with at present by the body, including the criteria which will govern the recognition of non-national social work qualifications.

A sub-committee of the National Validation Body has been appointed to draw up the criteria for an assessment mechanism. The next meeting of the National Validation Body will take place on 13 November 1995 and is expected to finalise the detailed criteria. When agreed, these will be applied without further delay to applicants who hold non-national social work qualifications, including the applicant who is the subject of the Deputy's inquiry.
