Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nursing Units.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

117 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health his views on the introduction of nursing units, organised and run by nurses, for patients who require minimum medical input but high levels of nursing care; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16233/95]

Limerick East): I presume the Deputy is referring to the proposal of the Irish Nurses' Organisation to develop community nursing units under the management of nurses. I have asked my Department to examine the merits of this proposal, and to consult with the health boards on its feasibility. I hope to be in a position to take a decision on the proposal in the near future.
