Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Training of Accountants.

Dan Wallace

Question:

119 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the number of educational institutions in the State involved in training accountants; the number of students completing such programmes each year; the breakdown by type or programmes and individual institutions; and the per capita cost to the State for students completing such programmes. [16376/95]

Most third level colleges offer courses leading to qualifications which gain exemptions for the holders from some of the academic requirements of the professional accountancy bodies. These qualifications include degrees in Commerce and Business Studies as well as certificates and diplomas in such areas as Business Studies, Accounting and Financial Management.

I am not aware of any courses offered in the State funded third level sector which on completion confer a qualification as a professional accountant.
