Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Olympic Games.

Robert Molloy

Question:

80 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she supports the view of the honorary international secretary of Bord Lúthchleas na hÉireann regarding the possibilities of Ireland hosting the Olympic Games in the year 2008; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16292/95]

The question of hosting the Olympic Games in Ireland is a matter for the Olympic Council of Ireland in the first instance. No request has been received by my Department from the Olympic Council of Ireland to support a campaign to bring the Olympics to Ireland. In these circumstances it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the views expressed in the newspaper article.
