Question:24 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the relationship between his Department and Údarás na Gaeltachta regarding tourism matters. [16861/95]

Tourism and Trade as lead Department for the Operational Programme for Tourism, (1994-1999) has a close working relationship with the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht who are responsible for administering the Natural-Cultural Tourism Sub-Programme and have Údarás as one of their executive agencies. This sub-programme, includes a particular focus on the wide range of resources and opportunities for the development of tourism in the Gaeltacht regions.
I also understand that Bord Fáilte, the statutory body, responsible for overseas promotion, are currenty in discussions with Údarás na Gaeltachta with a view to further developing tourist traffic to those regions.
