David Andrews

Question:

43 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the role of Bord Fáilte in his Department's Tourism Marketing Initiative. [16872/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 43 together.

The Overseas Tourism Marketing Initiative is an industry led partnership directed by a management board composed of key industry investor representatives, and one official from each of Bord Fáilte, the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and the Department of Tourism and Trade. The Board of Management has overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the initiative. Market groups for each of the four target markets have also been established to prepare consumer driven cost effective advertising programmes. These groups include industry investor nominees, Bord Fáilte and Northern Ireland Tourism Board Market Managers and representatives of the Department of Tourism and Trade.

It is intended that the OTMI partnership will continue to operate in 1996 under the direction of the management board. The company secretary and administration functions will, for the 1996 campaign, be undertaken by a project management team, comprising officials of Bord Fáilte Éireann and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
