Vol. 458 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tourism Sector Training.

Noel Treacy

Question:

40 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to co-ordinate and standardise training in the area of services to tourism; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16875/95]

CERT, as the State tourism training agency, is responsible for the co-ordination of training for the sector. The agency works bi-laterally with the Department of Education and through the auspices of the National Tourism Certification Board to ensure that relevant and quality training programmes are in place to meet the various skill needs of tourism. Through continuing research and close links with industry representative associations, individual tourism business and employee representative organisations, CERT monitors and reviews the potential job opportunities for, and the skill requirements of, the existing workforce and new entrants to tourism.
