Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

55 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will reconsider the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who has requested that the school bus route be extended by just over half a mile to collect her children in view of the fact that she is a disabled driver and the present arrangement is causing her hardship; and if she will instruct Bus Éireann to extend the existing route to accommodate these children. [17088/95]

It would not be open to my Department to extend the school transport service to accommodate the children to whom the Deputy refers. These children reside approximately 0.6 of a mile from the current pick-up point, and are considered to have a good level of service in the context of the general operation of the scheme.

The extension of this service would also involve additional State cost, and cause inconvenience to other children served by the same vehicle.
