Question:

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 77 together. The Midland Health Board is responsible for the management of services and deployment of staff at St. Loman's Psychiatric Hospital, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Current personnel policy for the health service provides that health agencies which are managing resources within allocation may fill non-consultant replacement posts, including nursing vacancies, without recourse to my Department.

The advertisements for the posts of nursing officer and deputy nursing officer at St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar, were placed in December 1994. No panels were formed as the competitions only allowed for the filling of one vacancy at each level. The second deputy nursing post concerned has since beenfilled by a nurse returning from a career break. The second nursing officer post has been advertised and interviews will be held as soon as possible.
