Question:47 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the current status of the Organisational Structures of Health Boards Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17562/95]
Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 46 and 47 together.
The Government has recently approved heads of a Bill to strengthen accountability in the health boards. The heads also address the issue of the respective roles and responsibilities of the boards and their chief executive officers. The heads will now be forwarded to the Attorney General for drafting of the Bill. I intend seeking Government approval to publish the Bill as soon as it is available to me.
I am currently finalising proposals for a second piece of legislation, to provide for new organisational structures in the Eastern Health Board area, which I intend bringing to Government shortly.
