Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Impact of Currency Valuation.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

160 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he is concerned at the impact on exports of our currency value against sterling and the fact that some manufacturers are moving processes or entire production to the UK thereby causing job losses in Ireland. [17685/95]

As I have indicated in another reply today, as Minister with responsibility for trade policy, I strongly support any measure promoted by my colleagues in Government which is designed to create an environment which facilitates companies operating here in gaining a competitive advantage. While my colleague, the Minister for Finance, has primary responsibility for exchange rate policy, matters relating to any possible decisions by companies here to re-locate production facilities to the UK, are a matter for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, to whom the Deputy should address any questions.
