Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Galway School Data.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

133 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education if she will list the one-teacher schools and two-teacher schools in County Galway; the schools in County Galway that will lose teaching positions in 1996 based on enrolments in September 1995; the schools in County Galway that will be reduced to one-teacher based on September 1995 enrolments; and the number of two-teacher schools that would not lose a teacher if the retention figure was reduced to an enrolment of 24 children. [18081/95]

A list of the one and two teacher schools in County Galway is attached.

The enrolment figures at 30 September 1995 will determine the staffing allocations in primary schools for the 1996-97 school year. However, until such time as the staffing schedule for the 1996-97 school year has been finalised, it is not possible to provide details of the schools which will lose or gain posts. It is expected that the 1996-97 staffing schedule will be determined early in 1996.

If the retention figure for the first assistant's post were to be reduced to 24 pupils, two schools in County Galway, which otherwise would be due to lose a teaching post in 1996, would remain as two teacher schools.
