Vol. 459 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dunmanway (Cork) School.

Joe Walsh

Question:

141 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the extension to Dunmanway vocational education college, County Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18190/95]

There are two postprimary schools, including the vocational school, in Dunmanway, County Cork. Both schools have applied for extensions requiring major capital investment.

The combined enrolment of the schools is around 670 which is an ideal size for a single school development. In the circumstances, it is incumbent on my Department to investigate the possibility of rationalisation in the centre before proceeding with individual building projects. My Department has written to both school managements in the matter seeking their observations.

In the circumstances, it is not possible to say at this stage whether or when the vocational school project might proceed.
