Vol. 459 No. 4

Written Answers. - Psychology Service Extension.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

70 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to extend a psychology service to the north-east with a perspective to children with educational difficulties such as dyslexia; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18366/95]

During the current year, 1995, ten additional psychologists have been recruited by my Department in order to improve access to psychological services in schools. In assigning these additional psychologists to schools, priority has been given to primary schools serving disadvantaged areas. It is the intention to continue the expansion of the psychological service to schools as resources become available for the purpose. In any future development, the needs of schools, and of children, in particular areas, including the North-East, will be borne in mine.
