Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Overcrowding.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

124 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the problem of overcrowding in Clongeen national school, County Wexford, and the application by school management for two extra classrooms; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that eight new houses were built in the area; when she proposes to sanction the extension to the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18663/95]

My Department received an application from Clongeen national school for the provision of one extra classroom. My Department's technical advisers have been asked to report on the feasibility of providing additional accommodation on the existing school site. As soon as this report has been received, the Department will be in touch with the school authorities. At this stage, I cannot give a realistic estimate as to when a grant will be sanctioned for an extension at this school.
