Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Road Policy.

Matt Brennan

Question:

49 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment if it is his Department's policy to ensure that environmental considerations are of paramount importance in considering all aspects of roads policy. [16011/95]

The overall objective of road policy is to provide, within the framework of a balanced and integrated transport policy, for the safe, efficient and cost effective movement of people and goods by road. Environmental considerations are given high priority in the implementation of this policy generally. In addition, all major road schemes are subject to formal environmental impact assessment procedures.
