Vol. 459 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Lynch — the urgent need to review the conditions under which public service licences are granted; Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to abolish ground rents as a lien on residential property; Deputy Michael Kitt — when sanction will be given for an extension of the Ballymacward-Caltra-Castleblakeney group water scheme, County Galway to Newtown-Tycooley; Deputy Quill — the 47 per cent rise in first time young psychotic admissions to public patient hospitals between February and November 1995 and the established link between these admissions and drug abuse; Deputy Mildred Fox — the problem of suicide in Ireland; Deputy O'Rourke — the details of the consultancy report commissioned by the Government on Irish Steel and British Steel and the action being taken to counteract the move by the British Iron and Steel Producers Association to seek a British veto at the Council of Ministers meeting; Deputy Hughes — the current position in relation to the Westport-Louisburgh water augmentation scheme; Deputy Michael Ahern — the current position in relation to building of the new school in Mallow, County Cork in view of the unsuitable accommodation available at present at Davis College; Deputy Seán Ryan — the need for Ireland to be granted an exemption from the EU draft Directive on the electricity industry in view of the implications for consumers in Ireland.

The matters raised by Deputies Quill, Mildred Fox, Hughes and O'Rourke have been selected for discussion.
