Question:

22 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education when renovations urgently required to the CBS Presentation School. Bun Scoil Mhuire, Youghal, County Cork will be carried out; the reason no progress has been made to implement the measures agreed between the school and her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18762/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 22 together.

My Department has been involved in detailed discussions with the management authorities of the Presentation and CBS schools to facilitate their amalgamation. Part of the discussions involved the need to carry out alterations to the Presentation building. An architect from my Department visited the school recently and is currently preparing plans for the necessary works. At this stage, I expect that the work will be under way early in the new year.

It is planned to house Gaelscoil Chorain in the former CBS school building, which is being vacated in the amalgamation process. At present, my Department is negotiating the acquisition of this property. Any works required to the building, which I understand would be minimal, will be carried out early in the new year.
There has been no undue delay in this case. The amalgamation process involves discussions on many issues and is therefore quite complex.
