Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Estimate Allocations.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

219 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the type of projects that received funding from the £4.748 million in 1995; and the groups/projects that will receive funding from the £4.515 million in 1996 under Subhead C2 of Vote 42 in the 1996 Estimates. [19330/96]

The sum of £4.748 million allocated under Subhead C2 Vote of the Vote of my Department was disbursed in the following areas: Structural Funds used to fund development of the Galway Theatre, Longford Theatre and the Hunt Museum; specific projects under my Department's direct responsibility e.g. costs associated with the development of the National Museum facility at Collins Barracks and the photographic archive for the National Library in Temple Bar, and other small-scale projects within the national institutions as well as funding committed in respect of the L'Imaginaire Irlandais Programme; grants towards the annual running costs of a number of smaller cultural organisations, including the Irish Manuscripts Commission, the Irish Architectural Archive and Marsh's Library; the arts awareness intervention scheme which is intended, inter alia, to address through the arts, the social integration of long-term unemployed people; and a number of special one-off grants for individual projects, the majority of which were included in the 1995 budget speech of the Minister for Finance.

Decisions have not yet been taken on the details of disbursement of funds in 1996 under this subhead.
