Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

John Ellis

Question:

505 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will sanction a 60 per cent grant aid for industrial development in the north-west area which is unable to compete in view of the assistance being provided in Northern Ireland. [19225/95]

Both IDA Ireland and Forbairt are legally empowered to sanction grant aid up to a maximum of 60 per cent in the north-west area and in other designated areas of the country. IDA Ireland's and Forbairt's policy is to secure overseas mobile projects at the lowest possible cost to the State and to adhere to value for money criteria. These dictate that grant aid paid must reflect the projected economic benefits of a particular project.
