Vol. 460 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Currency Movements.

David Andrews

Question:

80 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the attempts, if any, that have been made by his Department to monitor the effects on exporters of the high value of the punt against sterling. [1561/96]

All available data and information on trade flows including: official CSO trade statistics; survey results from a variety of sources; and feedback through the State agencies dealing with industry, are kept under constant review in my own Department and in other relevant Departments — principally Finance and Enterprise and Employment.

Amongst the aspects monitored in this process are the existence of any indications from the impact of currency movements, including the Irish pound-Sterling exchange rate, on export levels.
