Vol. 460 No. 5

Written Answers. - Live Exports to Turkey.

John Ellis

Question:

88 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when negotiations regarding health certificates being sought for live exports to Turkey will be completed; and the date on which these negotiations will be concluded. [1604/96]

The position is that contacts are ongoing with the Turkish authorities to agree a health certificate for live cattle exports to Turkey. The clarifications, on the conditions sought by the Turkish authorities, in relation to a number of diseases were conveyed to them in early December. Their reply is awaited.

The issue is continuously under review. However, it is not possible to predict the date when negotiations will be successfully concluded.
