Mary Coughlan

Question:

146 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, that has been made regarding the upgrading of the Ballyshannon Town Commissioners to an urban council. [1749/96]

Part X of the Local Government Act, 1994, provided for the establishment of a commission to report on town local government, including the appropriate classification for town local authorities. I expect to receive the report of this commission in about one month. In the meantime, it would be inappropriate to consider changes in the status of particular towns.
