Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Super Levy Projections.

Gerard Collins

Question:

59 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the projections, if any, he has for the likely level of the super levy in 1996. [1865/96]

In view of the fact that the milk quota year has not yet ended it is not possible at this stage to assess the level of the final super levy bill. Milk deliveries up to the end of December 1995 show an excess of 1.92 per cent or 18 million gallons over our quota. If this situation should remain at the end of the quota year, 31 March next, the country would face a super levy bill of £25 million. Therefore, it is important that every effort is made to curtail the level of production between now and the end of the quota year.
