Question:

122 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Health the amount allocated for new developments for the mentally handicapped in the Western Health Board region for each of the years 1994 to 1996. [1757/96]

The additional funding allocated to the Western Health Board region for the development of services to persons with a mental handicap in the years 1994 to 1996 was as follows:

A total of £2 million in capital funding is being made available nationally in 1996, the expenditure of which will be directly related to the service developments agreed by the regional mental handicap co-ordinating committees and approved by me.
Additional capital funding as follows has also been made available to the region from the 1994-1999 European Regional Development Fund Assisted Programe.

The European Regional Development Fund capital funding was allocated for the improvement and development of training centres for people with a disability including those with a mental handicap.
