Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Packard Electric.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

227 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the plans, if any, he has to intervene in the difficulties at Packard Electric, Tallaght, Dublin following recent industrial relations developments at the plant; and the contacts he has had with management and unions at the plant in view of the upcoming March 1996 deadline for the re-hiring of staff. [2328/96]

I am concerned about recent industrial relations problems at the plant. The unions and management recently attended conciliation conferences at the Labour Relations Commission for assistance in overcoming the problems. Both parties are engaged in ongoing internal discussions and I would hope that the outcome will be favourable towards securing the firm's future in Tallaght. The services of the dispute settling agencies remain available to assist the parties.
