Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Grants Scheme Restoration.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

244 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will restore the 35 per cent grant assistance paid towards the cost of glasshouse construction in the horticultural sector in view of the fact that the current ceiling of 35 per cent only being paid up to £90,000 will allow only 0.5 of acre units and discourages people who wish to increase their acreage in this important but underdeveloped sector. [2413/96]

The greenhouse grants scheme, which was in operation from 1 August 1989 to 31 July 1994, catered only for those who did not qualify for assistance under the farm improvement programme. Grant-aid was payable under that scheme at the rate of 25 per cent on a maximum investment of £90,000 per holding.

There are no funds available for the introduction of a new national scheme.
