Question:25 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the waiting period for mammograph services in each of the health board areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2742/96]

Limerick East): Diagnostic mammography services are currently provided at 19 centres throughout the country. Within each health board area immediate appointments are available for urgent referrals. The waiting times for routine referrals in each of the units are as set out in the following schedule.
The Deputy will also wish to know that I recently announced the introduction of a national breast screening programme on a phased basis. Phase 1 will commence as soon as possible and will cover the Eastern, North Eastern and Midland Health Board areas. It will target 120,000 women which represents 50 per cent of the target population for the programme.
