Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Referendum Advertising Expenditure.

Bertie Ahern

Question:

38 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the steps, if any, he taking to recover moneys provided to an advertising company during the divorce referendum in view of the fact that the expenditure of such moneys was deemed by the Supreme Court to be illegal. [1158/96]

I indicated to the House, in reply to questions on 23 January 1995, that the Government has no proposals to recover moneys spent on the Government's advertising programme on the divorce referendum. I can also confirm there are no proposals to recover moneys from an advertising company which was engaged under Government contracting procedures to provide services in the context of the divorce referendum campaign.
