Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding for Playgroups' Association.

Liam Aylward

Question:

81 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health the reason funding to the Irish Pre-School Playgroups Association in the South-Eastern Health Board area has been withdrawn since 31 December 1995; and if he will restore funding immediately to provide the services of advisers in this important area of child care. [3006/96]

I understand from the South-Eastern Health Board that it entered into an arrangement with the Irish Pre-School Playgroups' Association to fund a number of pre-school advisers in 1994 and 1995. The advisers were employed to assist pre-schools in the board's area to develop and improve the standard of their services.

The health board recently reviewed the operation of pre-school advisory service and requested a revised proposal from the IPPA in regard to the arrangements for 1996. I understand that this proposal is awaited.
