Vol. 461 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sheltered Housing Schemes.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

123 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to assist the organisations who administer sheltered housing schemes towards the cost of porters and wardens. [3099/96]

Approved voluntary organisations may be assisted in the provision of residential accommodation for a caretaker or person providing welfare services as an integral part of a project undertaken under the terms of the capital assistance scheme. In addition, local authorities may contribute under section 10 of the Housing Act, 1988 towards costs incurred by voluntary organisations in making accommodation available for homeless persons, including the provision of support services such as a caretaker or warden. My Department recoups 90 per cent of the expenditure incurred by local authorities under section 10.
