2 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Taoiseach the number of visits he has made to Northern Ireland since taking office. [2976/96]

Since taking office as Taoiseach on 15 December 1994, I visited Northern Ireland on six occasions.

Details of visits to Northern Ireland by the Taoiseach, Mr. John Bruton, T.D., — since 15 December, 1994.

1. Sunday 19 February, 1995.

The Taoiseach visited Armagh to attend the ordination of Rev. Sean Brady, as Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh.

2. Wednesday 22 February, 1995

The Taoiseach visited Belfast to launch the Joint Framework Document.

3. Wednesday 12 April — Thursday 13 April, 1995

Wednesday:

The Taoiseach:

—visited the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum,

—met the Secretary of State,

—attended C.B.I. dinner in Culloden Hotel.

Thursday:

The Taoiseach met and addressed members of the CBI-IBEC Council in Cultra Manor.

4. Thursday 29 June, 1995

The Taoiseach, accompanied by the Tánaiste, the Minister for Justice, the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte and Deputies Ahern and Harney, travelled to Enniskillen to attend the funeral of Senator Gordon Wilson.

5. Friday 27 October, 1995

On the invitation of John Hume, MP, MEP, the Taoiseach visited Derry where he: attended a civic reception in the Guildhall hosted by the Mayor of Derry; met leaders of the four main churches; walked through parts of the commercial centre of Derry; visited the Church of Ireland Cathedral, the Cathedral School and the Deanery; walked the historic city walls; walked through the Fountain Estate where he visited its new primary school; walked and drove through the Bogside and Creggan areas where he met community groups, including representatives from the Waterside and Fountain areas; and attended a reception, hosted in his honour by the president and officers of the local chamber of commerce and North West International.
