Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Chris Flood

Question:

144 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is responsible for the operation of the disabled person's maintenance scheme from the beginning of 1996 as was envisaged in mid 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3491/96]

Responsibility for the funding of the disabled person's maintenance allowance scheme was transferred from the Department of Health to my Department in August 1995. The necessary legislative provisions for the administration of the scheme to my Department will be included in the forthcoming Social Welfare Bill and the transfer will be effected as early as possible, following the enactment of the legislation and when the necessary administrative arrangements are complete.
