Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Regulations.

Robert Molloy

Question:

51 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that the terms of the Housing (Disabled Persons and Essential Repairs Grants) Regulations, 1993, are operable in the Galway Corporation area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3371/96]

I understand that Galway Corporation received 43 applications for disabled person's grants in 1995. At the end of December last, the corporation had 36 applications on hands of which 12 were approved and 24 were unapproved.

I understand that the corporation has no application for an essential repairs grant on hands. However, I expect that only a small number of cases in built-up areas, such as Galway city, could meet the requirement in the Housing (Disabled Persons and Essential Repairs Grants) Regulations, 1993, that there be no continuing demand for local authority housing at the location of the house in respect of which an essential repairs grant is sought.
The corporation has assured my Department that it will examine any application received for a disabled person's or essential repairs grant in the light of the requirements of the 1993 regulations.
