Vol. 461 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Staffing Arrangements.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

70 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the staffing arrangements currently available in Baggot Street Hospital, Dublin 2; and the current situation regarding the replacement of staff who have left the service. [3413/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the administration of Baggot Street Hospital is a matter for the Eastern Health Board. The board assures me that the staffing levels in the hospital are generally satisfactory. The hospital has recently experienced some difficulty in filling a vacant senior occupational therapist post in the rehabilitation unit but arrangements are being made to recruit a suitable candidate as a matter of urgency.

A comprehensive review and assessment of the physiotherapy needs for the population in the catchment area of the hospital is being undertaken by the Eastern Health Board to examine the adequacy of physiotherapy staffing levels. The review is expected to be completed within the next few months following which staffing levels at the hospital will be reassessed.
