182 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment the allocation to each local authority for non national roads for each of the years since 1980; the length of non-national roads within each local authority area; and the allocation per mile or kilometre in each area. [3890/96]

Details of the 1996 non-national road grant allocations are contained in a booklet entitled Non-National Road Grant Allocations, 1996 which is available in the Oireachtas Library. Details of non-national road grant payments in the period 1986-1995 are contained in the booklet State Grant Payments to Local Authorities for National, Non-National and Non-Public Accommodation Roads and own resources expenditure by Local Authorities on National and Non-National Roads in the period 1986-1995 which is also available in the Library.

Details of the grant payments per mile to each local authority for the period 1985 to 1993, together with the grant payments for 1985, are contained in the reply to Question No. 72 of 24 May 1994.

The length of non-national roads in each local authority area is set out in the booklet Inventory of Public Roads in Ireland as at 31 December 1977 which is available in the Oireachtas Library. The length of non-national roads in kilometres in county council areas (1995 estimates) is set out in the reply to Question No. 119 of 13 February 1996. A revised inventory which will provide up to date figures on the length of public roads is currently being prepared and will be published as soon as it is finalised.

The following tables show total non-national road grant payments/ allocations per mile to each local authority for 1994, 1995 and 1996. Information for the period 1980 to 1984 is being compiled and will be sent to the Deputy as soon as possible.
