Michael Creed

Question:

103 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if she intends to reduce the amount of time required by temporary teachers to secure permanent posts when they become available from five to three years. [3934/96]

Currently, temporary teachers with five years' service may qualify for panel rights.

Negotiations on reducing the service requirement from five to three years are ongoing with officials in my Department.

Question:

104 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the appointment of additional remedial teachers in 1996. [3935/96]

I am not in a position at present to sanction the appointment of additional remedial teacher posts.

When I am in a position to extend the remediation service, the schools which have applied to my Department for such a post will receive every consideration.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

105 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education when a school (details supplied) in County Galway will be granted disadvantaged status. [3936/96]

A detailed report by the Combat Poverty Agency on current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas is currently being considered in my Department. This report will provide a valuable input to the development of future approaches to the identification and support of pupils suffering educational disadvantage.

I am aware that the school referred to by the Deputy has applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme. The needs of this school will be considered in the context of any further expansion of the disadvantaged areas scheme which is undertaken.
